A WORD FROM OUR ARTIST
Joyce McMaster

I was born and raised in California.  I have been an artist all my life, mostly painting in oils until 1993.
While working on the US Naval Base here on Andros, I discovered that Bahamian Queen Helmut shells were being exported to Italy.  The Bahamas have very few natural resources.   I felt that it was important to develop this one here. I set out to teach myself cameo carving so that I could pioneer this industry.  I dive for my own shells as well as buy them from the conch divers.

Each piece of jewelry is hand carved so that no two are exactly alike.  My ideas come from the beauty of the world around us and all it has to offer.  From animals and flowers to sailing ships and Victorian ladies.

I have been featured in Bahamian newspapers, television and radio.  I do 5 or 6 art shows a year and sell my cameos in the local gift shops. Plans are currently in the process for a school here on Andros.

I wish to thank Victorian Station for giving me the opportunity to showcase my work.   I hope you enjoy the gift shop and if you don't see what you are looking for just let me know and I will create it for you.
